Barbara Panaka Mbitjana Price is a proud Anmatyerre woman originally from the Ti Tree (Tea Tree) community 190 kilometres north of Alice Springs in Central Australia. Barbara has 6 world-renowned artistic daughters, known as the Numina Sisters, and two sons. Barbara and her famous sisters and aunties hold many ceremony stories for the Anmatyerre language group.
As an elder and senior artist, Barbara paints the stories of her country and holds some of the secret business stories of her people and kinship groups from the Northeast Central Australia Desert region.
Recognised for her formidable command of paint on large-scale canvases, Price uses bold designs and intense colour to represent variations in the landscape in her bird’s eye perspectives of her beloved Anmatyerre Country and her memories of place.
Barbara relocated to Darwin to be closer to her children who mostly chose to stay in Darwin after attending high school at Kormilda College. Barbara’s husband sadly passed away, he was a well-respected stockman and cultural lawman.
